Lighten up with lotions!
A few months ago we discussed creams and how they create a barrier on the skin that helps keep moisture in the skin and prevent evaporation.
Lotions are a lighter consistency than creams and absorb faster. Like creams they help keep moisture in the skin and prevent evaporation but are not as heavy feeling.
If you have oily or combination skin you will probably prefer a lotion to a cream. Lotions may be used by any skin type but like creams you want to look at the ingredients to determine if a particular product is right for your skin type.
People with oily or combination skin should look for products that are water-based and that do not include ingredients like mineral oil or petrolatum. Those of you with dry skin may want a water-based lotion if you are layering your products; otherwise you may want to look for an oil-based product.
Those of you with sensitive skin should keep in mind that due to the faster absorption rate of lotions there is a slightly higher chance that irritation may occur. Be careful if you are changing from an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) cream to an AHA lotion. We recommend that you start using a lotion with a lower percentage of acid than your cream. This way you can work up to the higher percentage and prevent irritation.
